FIRMA LA PETIZIONE PER SALVARE I MAMMIFERI MARINI IN CANADA

Every year off the East Coast of Canada, hundreds of thousands of harp seals are killed for their fur and omega 3 oils in a mass hunt subsidized by the Canadian government. Between 2003 and 2005, over 900,000 seals were slaughtered, making the "hunt" the largest slaughter of marine mammals in the world.

Even though the boycott of Canadian products is building up all over the world, this autumn the Canadian government will announce the seal quota for the 2006 season. The expected number is 350,000 seals.

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society has started an international petition that will be sent to the necessary Canadian ministries and embassies to show the world's opposition to the cruel slaughter.

The seals do not belong to any individual or group of individuals. It is time to stop treating them, and other living things, as commodities.

Help the seals NOW!

What You Can Do:

1) Sign the Petition

Please visit www.seals.gen.tr/index.php and sign the petition today!

2) Continue to Boycott Canadian Seafood

Expert estimates conclude if U.S. citizens can effectively achieve just a 25% decline in the wholesale price, it would amount to $825 million, or 51 times the value of the seal hunt! The boycott will work!

One of the largest seafood restaurant chains in the U.S., Red Lobster, is one of the biggest purchasers of Canadian seafood and has refused to discontinue buying seafood from Canada. For that reason, Sea Shepherd has called for a nationwide boycott and protest of all Red Lobster restaurants.

Canadian seafood is sold in grocery stores and should be clearly labeled as coming from Canada -- but if in doubt, ask! If ordering seafood at a restaurant or cafeteria be sure to ask where it is from!

Foods to boycott:

a.. snow crab

b.. scallops

c.. mackerel

d.. turbot lobster

e.. mussels

f.. herring

g.. sardines

h.. cold-water shrimp

i.. cod

j.. prawns
